Hi, I’m Amy, the therapist behind North of Normal Counseling.
I got started in this field working in addiction treatment, and that experience shaped a lot of how I show up today—real conversations, no judgment, and meeting people exactly where they are. Over the years, I’ve worked across community-based services, in-home therapy, school settings, and outpatient setting within the community mental health field supporting teens, adults, and families through everything from everyday stress to more complex challenges.
I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, burnout, and major life transitions. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just tired of trying to keep it all together, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
My approach is laid-back, honest, and practical. I use evidence-based methods like CBT, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care, but I focus just as much on making sure therapy actually feels helpful in your real, day-to-day life—not just something that sounds good in theory. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. We figure out what works for you and build from there.
I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina and a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Approved Supervisor in Virginia. I’ve been working in the counseling field since 2012 and have been licensed since 2019.
At the end of the day, I believe therapy shouldn’t feel intimidating or overly clinical. This is a space where you can show up as you are—no pressure to be “normal,” just room to figure out what works for you.
